Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat happened to the Granola Board? After nearly 7.5 years in operation, the Granola Board was closed on July 31, 1997 due to rising telephone costs, and increased competition with local Internet providers. BBS systems, unfortunately, have gone the way of the dinosaur, having been overtaken by your generic and much less personal ISP. Are there plans to bring the system back up?There are no plans to bring the system online in the immediate future. However, saying "never" always seems to cause the universe to make one eat one's words; the possibility exists that someday the system may be reopened. ;-) Is the granola.com domain for sale?Yes, the domain is for sale. Please visit the Buy Granola.com page for details. Where should I go for local dial-up internet service? If you are in California, and are in Santa Barbara, or San Luis Obispo county, contact Impulse Internet. Impulse was Granola's provider and has very generously offered to waive the normal sign-up fees for former Granola members. How do I contact former Granola subscribers?Since the BBS has been closed for several years, we are no longer in contact with most of our former subscribers. If you are looking for someone specific, please contact us, and we'll try to help you locate them. A number of former Granola members tend to hang out at Southside Coffee Shop in Lompoc, located in the 100 block of South H street. Try visiting there, and you might meet someone you haven't seen in a while. What happened to the Sysop and Co-Sysop?Sysop still lives in the local area, and is a partner of Taylored Software, a custom software development firm in Lompoc, CA. Co-Sysop moved to the Sacramento area, and is currently working for his family business selling lawn tractors. |
